This software upgradation of Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V can be done using your PC. The solution in different for Windows and MAC users. You need different software for this purpose. Windows users download PC Companion while the MAC users please download and install Sony Bridge for MAC. Connect your phone to PC using data cable. Over the Air upgrade is not possible. So you have to have your Smartphone connected to PC before proceeding further.

Thank you for the post. but the real problem is not the upgrade, but to put up with the problems after it. I have read innumerable amount of complaints from people who upgraded to ICS on Talk.Sonymobile itself, which is their official forum. The main problem being failing Wi-Fi connectivity and battery drain.

Hello Simon, sorry to hear that you are unable to upgrade your neo V to ICS. Please try this once again by replugging everything. It is the only way.No OTA upgrade available.

i think the neo v is a very good phone for its price (it`s abut 180 € ~ 12000 INR)
but its not that valuable as my former phone (HTC Wildfire) its made of (cheap?) plastics, which i dont like that much and it gets a lot of scratches very fast. the display is awesome and the handling too. i like it, but friends often tell me that it looks some kind of cheap and call it a “plasticbomber” but i dont mind, they pay about € 600,- to € 800,- for their phones and they are not much better or faster or whatever than the neo. i can do more with it than an apple iphone 4s – user and the same like for example a HTC one S – user, and my akkumulator lasts longer

Price of neo V in India is around Rs. 18000/-. HTC Wildfire S is cheaper than that around Rs. 13500/-, Just tell your friends that you got the beauty.It is just an awesome phone for that price.

How did you fix it? Could you give me a hand, please? I am facing the EXACTLY problem you were – my phone shuts down even before the screen that asks me to do that appears and, when I hold the “Back button” while plugging in the USB cable, NOTHING happens. Different from your case, I assume the problem here is not related to the cable, since I’ve just bought the phone and it is a brand new cable. Plus, is working fine for transferring data and everything else. So, can you tell me what have you done, please?
oh, and off topic: is SonyEricsson very poular in india? just because all the vids on youtube and stuff are made by indians… and here in good ol` germany i sometimes feel like i`m the onlyone who`s got a sonyericsson, they all got samsung and htc

ok, thanks for that but that wasnt the question. why does NOTHING happen when i do connect the phone while pushing the back-button?
Possibility 1:
I do not understand why this is not working.Please make sure the USB port of PC you are working with is detecting the data cable. It may be an issue of the cable.Try it with different port and do not release the back button till an update shows in the screen.
Possibility 2:
Have you purchased your Neo V in contract with some carrier i..e Vodafone or Orange? Please make sure your carrier has upgrade to ICS
Possibility 3:
Make sure you have installed PC Companion or Windows or Sony Bridge for MAC
hi! sorry for my bad english, but i`ll try it.
i do connect my phone to pc, everything starts till the screen opens where i should switch off my phone. So i switch off the phone, disconnect it it, i hold the back-button while connecting it via usb, but nothing happens..! what should i do??? i get crazy about that! plz help me!
You please do one thing..take back up first using any popular apps and then try to connect it via USB as I mentioned.In some cases due to some hardware issues things get messed up and in the worse case you may find everything erased.
