Microsoft joins tablet party with it’s own product Surface. In recent times we have not seen much hardware product from the veteran although revolutionary mouse, keyboard and gaming console XBOX 360 still rules the market. But in software segment Microsoft is all in one; you name Windows, MS Office everything you will find under the brand. The battle between Apple and Microsoft is surely going to take new dimension.
Microsoft so far has dominated the OS market while Apple is the leading tablet manufacturer. It is quite evident Apple will sure be worried a bit with this new product. Acer, one of the leading tablet manufacturers has not taken this Microsoft move positively. Acer is OEM of Microsoft too. According to the Acer executive Microsoft is better of manufacturing operating system instead of tablets. Anyway, the first Microsoft surface is expected to come with Wi-Fi only version.
Microsoft worked really hard to make Surface as light as possible and just 3 mm thick Vapor Mg Touch Cover and Type cover are dual purpose covers. These can be used as touch pad and type pad respectively without increasing the overall effective thickness of Surface. A kickstand is well hidden in the back panel of the tab and is a much needed one especially when you place Surface on any surface.

Surface RT features 10.6 inches ClearType HD display while Surface Pro features same size ClearType full HD display. No display resolution is specified but we can expect at least 1366×768 pixels resolution that is required to run Windows 8′s Metro view. Just 9.3 mm thick Surface RT will come in 32/64 GB storage models. But Pro one will have 64/128 GB internal storage.
Surface also include 2×2 MIMO antennae which are expected to offer best Wi-Fi connectivity. The tab also features a 5 pin magnetic connector, dual microphone, dual speaker and dual camera as well. Front facing LifeCam is a new Microsoft innovation while the rear facing one is placed at an angle of 22 degree which means you can record video by resting the tab in the kickstand. Thanks to Microsoft you can still capture video effortlessly.
Surface is a promising product and looks elegant. Surface RT is slightly heavier than iPad with just by a margin. But the one running Windows 8 pro is lot heavier than any regular tablet. Basically, Surface Pro is a laptop or concisely notebook replacing product. It’s a powerhouse running with multi-core 3rd Generation Intel Core i5 Ivy Bridge processor. Separate GPU unit and couple of GB of RAM will definitely be there. Surface can copy up to 1 GB of data in less than 5 seconds of time which suggests the power of the hardware. Touch and Type Pad makes it even better to use the tab just like a notebook. Surface RT is expected to come at around $599 USD while Surface Pro will come around $999 USD.
