Microsoft may once again bring it’s own Windows Phone as reference device like what Google does with Nexus. Earlier Microsoft’s smartphone ‘Kin’ was a super flop product possibly that is the only reason why Microsoft has not brought the new benchmark devices in market. Things have changed in past few days; Surface Windows Tablet has been applauded by critics and everyone. Now one may show interest in Microsoft’s own Windows Phone.
Microsoft’s OEM’s are not too satisfied with Surface as it will increase the competition in market. Surface looks to have good hardware and design as well. So, there is every possibility that Nokia, the major Windows Phone manufacturer may react in some unknown way. Nokia has completely moved from Symbian to Windows. HTC is partly a OEM partner of Windows Phones. PC manufacturers may not react positively but Nokia will surely do that.
So far, the news is not yet confirmed whether Microsoft is planning to use their own hardware in the benchmark device or some other company like Nokia will be the hardware manufacturer just like Nexus smartphones for Android are manufactured and marketed by Samsung under the name of Google. There is every possibility that Microsoft will manufacturer the product by themselves. They already have tested and certified Snpdragon S4 chipset. So the reference device with Windows 8 in it may come with couple of cores of Krait.
It’s just like a gamble Microsoft is planning to take. Nokia is the largest Windows Phone vendor till date but WPs are not quite successful as compared to Android iOS. In such a critical situation Microsoft’s decision may result in a loss of OEM’s.
