Samsung Galaxy Pop Plus and Samsung Galaxy Y are two entry level Smartphone from Samsung with some cool features. You have both these phones available in almost same price list. Samsung Galaxy Y is available in India around Rs. 7500/- whereas Samsung Galaxy Pop is right now out of stock and will be replaced by Galaxy Pop Plus with some upgrade in features. I would definitely say Galaxy Y is better than Galaxy Pop but Galaxy Pop comes with similar features to Galaxy Y. In recent times you must have seen the craze of budget friendly Smartphones in India and this possibly encouraged Samsung to introduce some fresh pair of Smartphone models in India. It will definitely help the company to cement their market share in this quarter or may improve in next quarter. Lets’ take a look at some areas of consideration for both the models-
Samsung Galaxy Pop Plus vs Samsung Galaxy Y
1. Design & Looks
Samsung Galaxy Y comes with a dimension of 104 x 58 x 11.5 mm whereas Galaxy Pop Plus comes with 110.4 x 60.6 x 12.1 mm. You can say Galaxy Pop Plus is little bit thicker and there is 10 gm of weight difference between these two models. Otherwise cool finishing of both the models catch your eyes.
2. Operating System & Processor
Samsung Galaxy Y launched in market with Android 2.3 Gingerbread straight away. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Pop Plus is currently running with Android 2.2 Froyo. Upgrade is available in market. Gingerbread is by far the best Android version available in market. Same 832 MHz ARM v6 processor is used in both the models. I am sure you would like to have more powerful processor but believe me, if you are not a game freak it will not cause much trouble to you. Galaxy Pop Plus uses 384 MB of RAM whereas Galaxy Y comes with 290 MB RAM.
3. Display
Samsung Galaxy Y comes with 3 inches TFT Capacitive touch screen display with 256k color range support. Galaxy Pop comes with slightly larger display; 3.14 inches of TFT Capacitive touch screen display is used in this model. Both these phones are built on Samsung TouchWiz and supports touch sensitive controls. Both the models come with integrated accelerometer, proximity sensor and digital compass.
4. Memory
Samsung Galaxy Y comes with 180 MB internal memory and micro SD card slot that can house up to 32 GB of memory. On the other hand, Galaxy Pop Plus comes with 160 MB internal memory. You can increase memory up to 32 GB by inserting micro SD card. 2 GB card bundled with sales pack.
5. Camera
Quality of primary camera is not impressive in any of these phones. Still you are getting 3.2 MP camera with features like Geo-tagging. VGA video recording is supported. Although Galaxy Y and Galaxy Pop Plus both are 3G Smartphone no secondary camera is available with any of these models.
6. Network & Connectivity
Both these Smartphone models operate on quad band GSM and dual band 3G network. You have high speed GPRS and EDGE apart from 3G high speed HSDPA. You can achieve up to 7.2 Mbps speed in 3G network. Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot along with Bluetooth and micro USB port completes connectivity options. NFC is not integrated with these models.
7. Entertainment
Music player, video player and stereo FM Radio are available with both the models. Samsung Galaxy Pop Plus comes with DNSe sound enhancement and regardless to say sound quality in Pop Plus is much better in comparison to Galaxy Y. Both the phones support Java via MIDP emulator. You can download apps and games from Android market.
8. Price
Price of Samsung Galaxy Y is Rs. 7500/- in India whereas Samsung Galaxy Pop Plus will be available at around Rs. 8000/- in India. You can see there is not much of difference in price.
Verdict
I have not found any major difference to bring any conclusion. But slightly larger display and better sound quality may provide Samsung Galaxy Pop Plus little bit of edge over Samsung Galaxy Y.
