In this post, I’ll compare Samsung Galaxy S II I9100 vs Samsung Galaxy S Advance. Galaxy S II is one of the best smartphone Samsung has ever brought to market. With no surprise, it features something out of the box. Before Galaxy S III was introduced in market it was the best selling product for the South Korean company. It was released back in April 2011 but it’s still good enough to compete any newly released smartphone. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy S Advance was released exactly one year after Galaxy S II. Let me tell you, Galaxy S II is still better than Galaxy S Advance. Let’s take a look at detailed review for better understanding-

1. Operating System

Galaxy S II was launched loaded with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Recently, it was upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Samsung is also planning to upgrade S II to latest Android version, v4.1.1 JellyBean. On the other hand, though Galaxy S Advance is released very recently it still runs Gingerbread. It’ll get upgrade to ICS for sure, may be in the last quarter. Assume Android 4.1.1 is not in the cards.

2. Processor

Before I go on comparing other segments, I must mention that Samsung Galaxy S II is a high end smartphone while Galaxy S Advance is more like a mid range droid. So, you have to offer it bit relaxation over the other one. :) Anyway, dual core 1.2 GHz Exynos chipset (couple of Cortex A9 cores are coupled with Mali 400-MP GPU) runs this device smoothly. HD game playing or HD movie playback is a real treat. On the other hand, Galaxy S Advance is fueled by 1 GHz dual core STE U8500 chipset processor. Performance wise S II is far better and more reliable.

3. Display

As you have expected Galaxy S II has larger display. It features 4.3 inches display over S Advances’s 4.0 inch. Both are using Super AMOLED type display with resolution support of 480×800 px. Galaxy S Advance has slightly higher pixel density in display, 233 ppi over 217 ppi which means slightly brighter display is featured by S Advance. Both these droids are built on Samsung TouchWiz UI which is one of the best user interfaces for Android OS. Corning Gorilla Glass coating on display protects the display surface from external scratches in case of Galaxy S II. The same feature is absent in Galaxy S Advance. You can see, S II once again snatches a victory.

4. Body

Both these droid suffer from similar plastic body design. It’s not too pleasant to hold in hand firmly. Additionally, slim, light weight design pose some risks especially if your palm sweats a lot. Rough back panel would have been an ideal solution but a case may be of real use to you. Galaxy S II is measured to be 125.3 x 66.1 x 8.5 mm and weights just about 116 gm whereas Galaxy S Advance is slightly thicker having 123.2 x 63 x 9.7 mm dimension and 120 gm weight.

5. Storage

Samsung Galaxy S II is available in 16/32 GB storage models along with micro SD card slot expandable up to 32 GB. On the other hand, Galaxy S Advance comes with 8/16 GB storage models and expandable micro SD card slot up to 32 GB. More on board storage means you can install large applications apart from storing more songs, videos and images. Galaxy S II is powered by 1 GB RAM while S Advance negotiates with 768 MB RAM.

6. Camera

No doubt, Galaxy S II is the clear winner of this round. It sports 8 MP primary rear facing camera with features like auto focus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, image stabilization. Secondary front facing 2 MP camera for video calling is also very impressive in it’s segment. Camera records HD video at 1080p. On the other hand, Galaxy S Advance sports slightly inferior 5 MP camera with features like LED flash, auto focus, face and smile detection, touch focus. Primary camera of S Advance shoots video at HD 720p. Secondary camera is there too but it’s just a 1.3 MP one. You can see Galaxy S II is unbeatable in all respect in this segment.

7. Network & Connectivity

Both these droids operate on quad band GSM and quad band HSDPA network. High speed GPRS/EDGE in GSM network is supported by both. In 3G network Galaxy S II can achieve up to 21 Mbps speed while Galaxy S Advance hits up to 14.4 Mbps HSDPA speed. Other connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, micro USB are supported by both. NFC is an optional feature for both of them. Though you can see both are very close in this segment Galaxy S II is slightly better because of it’s faster HSDPA network support.

8. Battery

Battery is very important for an Android driven smartphones. Powerful battery ensures longer backup and more hours of talk time. Samsung Galaxy S II uses 1650 mAh Li-Ion battery while Galaxy S Advance is negotiating with a 1500 mAh battery. Now it becomes easy to predict that S II delivers more hours of standby time and talk time. Galaxy S II offers up to 710 hrs of standby time and 18 hrs of talk time. On the other hand, Galaxy S Advance can deliver to 570 hrs of standby time and 15 hrs of talk time. Once again Galaxy S II wins a round.

9. Price

Galaxy S II is costlier than Galaxy S Advance by a fair margin. It costs you around 370 Euro or Rs. 28k in Indian currency whereas Galaxy S Advance costs around 300 Euro or Rs. 22k in Indian currency.

From the above comparison you can see S II winning all the rounds over S Advance. I do not need to tell you anything else. If you keep price aside no doubt Samsung Galaxy S II is still one of the best smartphones available in market.
