Samsung Galaxy S4, the next gen flagship from the South Korean giant Samsung is not releasing in Mobile World Congress this year. Like the previous ‘S’ series flagships Samsung could announce it in April. But in last few days we are hearing that the flagship phablet will release in February even if it’s not the MWC event. The flagship droid will feature 5 inch Super AMOLED display with full HD 1080×1920 pixels resolution. It’s not the flexible display Samsung showcased in CES this year. It could have a S-Pen like stylus that we already have seen in ‘Note’ series phablets. Several other attractive features will be there in the flagship. Let’s round up all the rumors-
Expected Specs of Samsung Galaxy S4
Couple of things we already have confirmed about the flagship like display size and display type. It sports 5 inch Super AMOLED display with full HD 1080×1920 pixels resolution at impressive 441 ppi. Resolution and ppi are not surprising as HTC Droid DNA, Oppo Find 5, Huawei Ascend D2, LG Optimus G Pro, ZTE Grand S all sport full HD 5 inch display with around 441 ppi. But Super AMOLED or the simply the Samsung’s own AMOLED type is going to be introduced for the first time with such high ppi. Major advantage of AMOLED is the LEDs are not externally illuminated which result in more battery life. According to AnandTech it’s RGB OLED display instead of the Pen-Tile display we have seen in Galaxy S3. It’s basically Super AMOLED Plus that was seen earlier in Galaxy S2 rather than Pen-Tile Super AMOLED. The major advantage of RGB Matrix over Pen-Tile is it increased screen life by some extent.
Earlier we though it’s Exynos 5440 Quad SoC with quad Cortex A15 cores and Mali 658T GPU. But now it looks like the brand new octa-core Exynos is used here. The octa-core SoC is showcased in CES this year. Hopefully, the new chip will drive the beast.
Samsung is importing 13 MP camera sensors for the Galaxy S4. Earlier they tried to include the 13 MP camera unit in Galaxy Note 2. Sony failed to produce enough 13 MP camera sensors for Note 2 as LG grabbed the full lot of 13 MP camera sensors from them for their Optimus G. This resulted in 8 MP camera sensor in Note 2. However, the impact seems negligible as Note 2 is still the best selling phablet. Hopefully, this time in Galaxy S4 Samsung could manage to import enough 13 MP camera sensors.
Possibly, Li-Ion 2600 mAh battery will fuel the flagship droid. It’s bigger than the 2100 mAh battery of Galaxy S3. More hours of backup is very much in the cards.
It looks like out of the box Android 4.2.1 JellyBean is what Samsung is looking for. It will definitely get upgrade to Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie in future. For the time being JellyBean is what Samsung could manage. Next Nexus packed with Key Lime Pie is coming from the house of Sony. Until and unless it hits the market no other device can manage to run the OS version.
Possibly, the S-Pen like stylus will be there in Galaxy S4. Currently it’s only available for Note series phablets. But Galaxy S4 is the first ‘S’ series smartphone to get the S-Pen stylus.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Release Date
As I said earlier it could be delayed till April. If all recent rumors are true Samsung will definitely avoid the MWC. May be a custom event will be held for the announcement in early March.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Price
Without any surprise it’s going to burn your pocket. You can expect the unlocked version of Samsung Galaxy S4 at around $800 or may be more.
