Yes, it’s disappointing for everyone who already have purchased a Windows Phone. Windows 7.8 upgrade is just a consolidation, nothing else I can say.

You can buy Nokia 610,Lumia 710 which are available in Indian market and upgradable to Windows 7.8. If the upgrade does not come with the phone you can upgrade it manually via Zune.
Samsung Omnia W has received the official 7.8 upgrade. It has front camera that Lumia 610, Lumia 710 and even 800 lacks. Otherwise, these are pretty same in terms of hardware.
